Thoughts on the Recent New Pope Instalment
Just a few thoughts from my observation of the current new pope election on this May 8, 2025...
As one commentator said, one hundred years ago the pope was not the global geopolitical figure he is today – especially with the world-wide technology and social media, etc. that is available today.
Getting closer to the end times now, does this make current popes different from the others from previous times?
First of all, my thought as I was watching the whole process, is that this has got to be the most pompous process of the Vatican affairs -- and most celebrated of the peoples packing the Vatican square, and television coverage of any world event I've ever seen.
Watch the crowd's reaction at this video: https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2025-05/pope-leo-xvi-peace-be-with-you-first-words.html
According to all the commentators who participated on the coverage, this new Pope is the first ever American Pope in history, and the youngest at 69 years of age.
One Bishop, Robert Barron, said that he was actually 'shocked' about the fact that this pope is American born. And so did Fox News anchor Martha Maccallum as per her own admission. Whatever the meaning is that's interesting.
Praying to Mary
From a Google search and according to "The Today Show", in his first address Pope Leo XIV included Mary's role in his speech. Describing her as "our Mother" he offered a prayer to her, asking for her intercession, presence and guidance.
On the web site "Vatican news", it says: "Pope Leo concluded his remarks thanking the Vatican employees from his heart; encouraging them in this month of May to 'invoke the Virgin Mary together, that she may bless the Roman Curia and Vatican City, and also your families—especially children, the elderly, and those who are ill or suffering"; and inviting them to join him in praying a Hail Mary."
https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2025-05/pope-leo-vatican-employees-faith-prayer-salt-discourse.html
The new Pope did mention Jesus Christ but always alongside with other Catholic church and Vatican figures. He did say in his speech “we will proclaim the gospel without shame”. But to Catholic leaders and members, Popes are successors of Peter whom they teach was “the first pope”.
It was said that the pope is not allowed to change the doctrines of Jesus Christ but “he is allowed to develop the understanding of the doctrines”.
There is much to be read about the history of the Pope and Catholicism which you can check out at the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope#History .
Some personal background notables
In his first public address, the new Pope spoke in perfect Italian and perfect Spanish. Many commentators found it surprising that he did not speak in English, being that he is an American – and the first one at that. Interestingly, a search into his background shows that his mother was of Spanish descent and his father had French and Italian background; this would explain why he is so fluent in those languages.
He took on the name of Leo XIV after Leo XIII who was pope from 1810 to 1903 and who did a lot of social work. Some think that this could mean that he wants to continue or pick up from the socialist direction of that previous pope. Who knows... time will tell.
One of the things that came to my mind when this title was announced was that, perhaps, it was meant to remind people of Louis XIV which could be an indication of political essence... some people have already been heard to have mistaken the title as such already. But maybe that is totally out of the intention.
Some notables about the “Church”
One of the commentators remarked that a pope is “a leader of the universal church”.
At one point on the television coverage, one news reporter said that Catholicism is “religion to 50% of the world's population”... this would mean 4 billion people! But at a later time in the coverage someone else (Bishop John Bonnici) said there are 1.4 billion Catholics !
Then at another point news anchor John Robert said that the catholic church holds a membership of 20% (don't know if he meant of Christians or of the population). But I'm wondering what people gained as 'knowledge' about the catholic church with this kind of reporting. By the way the word 'catholic' means 'international'... it comes from the Greek meaning "through the whole", "universal," "world-wide," "all inclusive."
Other interesting afterthoughts
The exhilarated crowd went wild when the white smoke finally appeared on the roof top of the Vatican buildings. And by the way, on this subject matter, some people said that the whole election was “fixed”... is that true? Not much has been said on that in the news, however the process did seem to go pretty quickly!
It is interesting that some years ago Pope Francis had made this new pope leader over all the cardinals for the reckoned purpose of teaching/leading/working universally with them. Was that a coincidence or was it in preparation for this 'startling' election?
Bill Hammer of Fox News said he felt this new Pope appeared comfortable, had a genuine smile, etc... However I personally noticed a constant sniffling going on during his whole speech. I don't know if this was because he had a cold or if it was a nervous reaction.
However I did notice that this did notably worsen after the speech as he stood still fixing his gaze upon the hyper-acclamation from the crowd below. If that was the case, understandably I'm sure this would have been quite an emotional experience for anyone to go through.
And finally for this article, another thought came to my mind when the “first American ever” phrase was mentioned, and that is that perhaps this was a prophetic sign connection to the Babylon of the book of Revelation!
Some people say that the Babylon of Revelation is America, (personally I don't think it is, but who knows?) others say it is Rome... As everything else, time will tell.
So, does all of this make this new current pope (and others to come perhaps ?) different from the previous times? Good question. We'll have to wait and see.

What happened last Tuesday night in Israel?
Excerpt from Behold Israel Weekly Newsletter
with Amir Tsarfati
I was reading the current issue of "Behold Israel Weekly Newsletter by Amir Tsarfati", founder of Behold Israel Connect, which I received today. I was really impressed with the reporting of Amir from his own personal experience right there in the land of Israel. I really wanted to share an excerpt of the newsletter that has to do directly with what took place in that historic night... and as it pertains to end times events...
From Harbinger's Daily World News: "...Most people don’t get the magnitude of what we witnessed Tuesday night. One of my news sources, Hillel Fuld, expressed it perfectly. He wrote, “What we witnessed last night was the equivalent of God splitting the sea right before our eyes.” That is not an exaggeration, despite the attempts of the media to downplay what occurred..."
So, here's sharing with you Amir's report:
.... "Thus, on Tuesday night, Israel received a warning – oddly enough, from the U.S. – that Iran was about to ballistic missile the heck out of them. Sure enough, 190 gigantic ballistic missiles left launchers in Iran bound for Israel in Operation True Promise 2, a name that feels like it desperately needs a subtitle, like “Back from the Dead” or “This Time its Personal”. The attack didn’t begin well. There were a number of missiles that went up and came right back down. Five Iranian soldiers lost their lives this way. But the rest soared toward Israel in the largest ballistic missile strike the world has ever seen. In Israel, we scrambled for our bomb shelters where we prayed for God’s intervention.
"When we started hearing the booms, it was obvious that something incredible was taking place. Quite a few of us went back outside to video what was taking place in the skies. In Israel, we have three layers of missile protection. We have the Iron Dome for short-range rockets, David’s Sling for mid-range, and Arrow that targets ballistic missiles that can fly outside the earth’s atmosphere. What we saw in the skies, and what you can see in some of my Telegram videos, was absolutely miraculous. All three systems were working together, simultaneously bringing down rockets at different altitudes. The odds of all three functioning as they did in absolute unison is beyond computation.
"But the miracles didn’t end there. Some of the missiles got through and hit the ground. But when they did, they completely missed every place people were hiding. If just one of those ballistic missiles hit an apartment building or a mall or a military base, hundreds would have died. However, it simply didn’t happen. God’s hand was over His people. A few buildings were struck, and some minor infrastructure was damaged, but not a single live rocket landed on anyone. It’s true that there was one Arab in Jericho who had the husk of a destroyed missile fall on him when was out walking instead of hunkering down in a shelter like he was supposed to, but that’s it for the deaths. Social media is filled with stories of Israelis reporting rockets falling all around them, but not one person was hurt. Most of the rockets that made it through the curtain of protection landed in open areas – in sand, in water, in empty spaces.
"Most people don’t get the magnitude of what we witnessed Tuesday night. One of my news sources, Hillel Fuld, expressed it perfectly. He wrote, “What we witnessed last night was the equivalent of God splitting the sea right before our eyes.” That is not an exaggeration, despite the attempts of the media to downplay what occurred. Again, as Hillel put it, “Last night was an incredible display of the collaboration between two of the powers that protect the Jewish people: The IDF and Hashem.” Hashem in English means “the Name”. It is God Himself.
"A common phrase we are beginning to hear around Israel is that we are living in biblical times. Even the most secular Israelis and agnostics are saying it. There is no other way to describe what has taken place. We can see in Ukraine and Russia the effects of ballistic missiles. It’s devastating. But neither of those sides ever faced 190 fired at the same time. And not only did we face them, but we came out smelling like a rose.
"God is truly amazing. It is one hundred percent true that most of the population of Israel still has a veil over their hearts when it comes to the Messiah. But God promised that He would never abandon His people, even when they turned their backs on Him. He laid out a plan in the Bible that would eventually have them turning their hearts toward Him, and it fits exactly into what we are seeing taking place in Israel today"....
