Opening Narrative

Hello and welcome to another exciting radio program today on end times and prophecies and scriptures to live by... which is all about old-time gospel and worship music, praying for needs and preaching the Word of God....

And remember this radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched is broadcast every Sunday at 7 am and 7 pm pacific time... and if you unfortunately miss it for whatever reason at any time, you can hear the program any time after that for 4 weeks...at my web site TimingRevelation.com

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

So, we continue today, with the new series from the book of Deuteronomy in the Old Testament, which is a review by Moses of the previous three books of the Old Testament.

We will begin here right after this opening music, prayer and worship...

Praise God Doxology

Narrative 1

So last week we ended the program at verse 30 of chapter 31 of the book of Deuteronomy.

it was suggested that we all read the Song that God gave to Moses, on our own time because it is too long to read within these radio programs, and it really requires some meditation as well as it is read. We could do a whole program just on that because it runs 43 verses long!

But I do sincerely hope that all of us have gone over it and prayed and meditated over every scripture because it is truly fascinating and beautiful to hear God's heart on all of that.

I'm sure some of you read it from your own favourite Bible version, rather than from the good Old King James, as I do -- as well as the New King James -- because yes it can get hard to understand in the Old English...

However if you have any questions from your reading of that unusually long passage of scripture, do not hesitate to send them to me through the contact form on my web site TimingRevelation.com, and I will answer them within the next radio shows.

So right now we will pickup from the last passage of scripture that we left off from last week, and read from the next verse after the Song of Moses,

so, verses 44 to 47 still in the chapter 32 of the book of Deuteronomy:

v. 44_”And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

45 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:

46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.”

So that's how important reading and doing these Words were to the children of Israel – and of course the word of God is important to us as well.

Next,
Moses is permitted by God to see the land of Canaan:
vs 48 to 52:

48_”And the Lord spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,

49 Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and look at (behold) the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:

50 And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

51 Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of MeribahKadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. (So here's the reason why God did not let Moses go into the land -- because he did not do according to God's expectations.)

v.52 Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.

So as we can see – always throughout the Word of God, God is supreme over His Law and His Word... He will judge over whatever He has seriously warned the people about... He is God the Creator and He is totally Just in His given Word -- as given.

Narrative # 2

Alright so let's now move into chapter 33 which is where we read about Moses blessings over the Tribes...

Again this chapter is a very profound and long discourse – although not as long as the Song of Moses that we saw earlier... this one is 29 verses as opposed to the song of Moses being 43 verses.

However this one chapter is as theologically deep as the previous chapter and again should be read by the listeners each on their own time as deserving of worthful meditation...

And to that end, I include here some important notes to remember as background when reading these last particular passages of chapters 31 to 34 of the book of Deuteronomy ...

1)_they still stand in concealment of the continuity of the Covenant,

2)_chapter 31:1-29 – Joshua is commissioned as Moses' successor,

3)_31:30 to 32:43 -- The Song of Moses,

4)_32:44 to 47 – Moses' instructions to the people,

5)_32:48 to 52 – Moses is permitted to see the land of Canaan,

6)_33_1 to 29 – Moses blesses the tribes.

So as you read these chapters on your own it will help to keep them within their context.

But here we will read now the last chapter of Deuteronomy,
chapter 34 about the Death of Moses and Joshua's dynastic succession.

So, chapter 34, verses 1 to 8 – Moses dies on Mount Nebo:

And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,

2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,

3 And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

4 And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

v. 5 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.

6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

8 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

And finally, chapter 34 verses 9 to 12 – Joshua succeeds Moses:

v. 9 “And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses.

10 “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

11 “In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,

12 “And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

Narrative #3

And next, we will get into the book of Joshua which is quite naturally the historic flow of sequence in the Bible. It is a fairly short book with only 24 chapters....

This is the 2nd division of the Old Testament canon which continues the history of Israel and the promised land, demonstrating God's faithfulness to His Covenant established with the patriarchs.

It covers the settlements of the tribes in their promised land and shows God's holiness in judging the heinous Canaanites, and directing Israel to forsake evil.

Here we also see God's salvation as related to man. The very name of the new leader who takes over from Moses – Joshua – is the Hebrew meaning “God's salvation” -- in other words not “Joshua's salvation” but “God's Salvation”!

History records that by the time of the leading of Joshua, the Canaanites had degenerated to total immorality and brutality that had led them to the most degenerative rites of the ancient world. We saw some of that in our earlier reading of the book of Deuteronomy, where the killing of the enemies were seen as the judgment of God upon them.

So let's start with Joshua chapter 1 and see how far we'll be able to go in this program today...

So first we will read through the conquest of Canaan here under Joshua's leadership. The first thing the people of God have been commanded to do is to cross the Jordan...

Let's read chapter 1, covering the preparations for the conquest,
chapters 1 to 18, chapter 34

1)_”Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

This is interesting to read all this in our time right now, as we hear of the disputes on this subject in the news today. But, here it is for all to read in the Word of God.

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Now, this does not mean there will be no obstacles along the way. Yes God is with them – as He is with us today – but there are still life's difficulties that we will be encountering along the way.....

so v. 6)_”Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7)_” Only be thou strong and very courageous” (again God re-emphasizes for the people to be strong and courageous)...

“...that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

So God reminds the people that they are to walk on the straight and narrow as to the keeping of the law and the Covenant.

v. 8_”This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

v. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage;...”

Wow again the third time be strong and courageous...

“...be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

v.10_”Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals (provisions); for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

v.15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

So what is this all about? Well, these 2 and 1/2 tribes had been given land on this side of Jordan by Moses earlier on. Now Joshua is telling them that they will have to do their military service and join the others in conquering the other side of Jordan by going there with them and conquer. Then they could come back to their land and families and rest after victory is achieved.

And in the next program we will continue the journey through the conquest of the land that God has set before them, as promised to their fathers.

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
