Opening Narrative

Hello and welcome to another exciting radio program today on end times and prophecies and scriptures to live by... which is all about old-time gospel and worship music, praying for needs and preaching the Word of God....

And remember this radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched is broadcast every Sunday at 7 am and 7 pm pacific time... and if you unfortunately miss it for whatever reason at any time, you can hear the program any time after that for 4 weeks...at my web site TimingRevelation.com

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

So, we continue today, with the new series from the book of Deuteronomy in the Old Testament, which is a review by Moses of the previous three books of the Old Testament.

We will begin here right after this opening music, prayer and worship...

Narrative 1

Alright, so last week we finished with verse 11 of chapter 15 in the book of Deuteronomy where God's people were told to be generous with their giving to the poor and needed.... without worrying as to whether he will pay you back or not....

We closed with verse 11 which says:

11_”For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

So let's pick up now from verse 12 on the treatment of servants...

...verse 12 to 18, still in chapter 15, of the book of Deuteronomy...

12_”And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

13_”And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

14_”Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

15_”And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing today.

16_”And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

17_”Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

18_”It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

Now about verse 17 where it says, ”Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever...”

This is very interesting. It sounds as if they would be pinning the servant right onto the door of the house! So I checked several other Bibles – both English and Jewish – and they all read the same way...

......it is intersting that not one commented on this except one of the Jewish Bible did but actually commented the same as I just commented above, that it sounds as if they are pinning the servant right on the door...

...of course we know they wouldn't be doing that... but still, it sounds very strange... so because I'm curious about these things, I checked further into this by going to one of my French Bibles, thinking that may be there would be some French colloquial cues that would point to some new perception about it ...

and sure enough, there in the French scripture it actually says “you shall take an aul, and thrust it through his ear against the door”... right away I had the picture in my mind that the master would then set the servant's ear agains the door or door post to pierce the ear through...

And this, it explains in my french Bible, was an ancient custom that symbolized the permanent bond of the servant with that household...

Narrative # 2

Yes, Jesus is the upper light on the lighthouse but we are the lower lights on the shore... let the lower lights be burning... and as the lower lights, we are servants of the most high God.

Alright, let's move on to the next verses in

chapter 15 of the book of Deuteronomy,

verses 19 to 23
on the consecration of firstlings...

19_”All the firstling males (or all the first born males) that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.

20_”Thou shalt eat it before the Lord thy God year by year in the place which the Lord shall choose, thou and thy household.

21_”And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God.

22_”Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart

23_”Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.

(Now I have to just stop here for a moment and apologize for my voice because it's just breaking up again... and I'm trying really hard to tape and re-tape as clear as I can ... so be patient with me...)

And now let's get into chapter 16, of the book of Deuteronomy,

verses 1 to 17, on “the three appointed feasts”...

So here we hear of Israel being commanded to appear before Jehovah at His appointed place three times a year (v.16), to celebrate...

v. 1_”Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.

Now, “Abib” in the Hebrew is actually pronounced “Aviv (aw-veev)” and it means “new grain”.

The Strong concordance describes it as:

1), “fresh, young barley ears, barley

2), month of ear-forming, of greening of crop, of growing green, Abib, month of exodus and passover (March or April)...

So the Feasts here were this:

1--the Feast of the Passover, (v.2-8)
2--the Feast of Pentecost (also called the Feast of Weeks), (v. 9-12)
and
3--the Feast of Tabernacles (v. 13-17)...

According to the Liberty Commentary Bible, these were the primary feasts; attendance at the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement was not obligatory.

So we will look at those 3 main Feasts, right after this...

Narrative #3

Alright, let's read vs. 2-8 about the Feast of the Passover:

v. 2_”Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the Lord shall choose to place his name there.

3_”Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even (that is) the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.

5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee:

6 But at the place which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.

7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.

8 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.

v. 9 to 12, the Feast of Pentecost (also called the Feast of Weeks)

9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.

10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the Lord thy God, according as the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:

11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

Now you will notice here that they are telling the people to invite all the people around them who are lonely, alone, strangers, fatherless, widows, and so on... this is one thing that we ought to remember in our churches... sometimes we go to church and you come out and you haven't met anyone, because everbody is so busy with their own things and their own families.

12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes...

v. 13 to 17, the Feast of Tabernacles

13 Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine:

14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:

17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

And then, the last part of chapter 16 is about

Judges and Officers concerning judgments...

Let's read vs.18 to 22 of chapter 16 of the book of Deuteronomy:

v.18_”Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

v.19_”Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

v. 20_”That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

21_”Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make thee.

22_”Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

Narrative #4

Alright, so next we will read about other divers instructions given to the people:

First, we read about animal sacrifices:

v. 1_”Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the Lord thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any defect (evilfavouredness): for that is an abomination unto the Lord thy God.”

Wow... "why", some might be asking...

I like what the Liberty Commentary Bible says here:

“Israel was not allowed to sacrifice an animal with a blemish. This was symbolic of Christ, the lamb without spot or blemish who would bear the sins of the world.”

Everything that was given as instruction by God to the people had an important symbolic or prophetic significance... for people of all generations... including applications for us today...

That's why when we read the Word of God, we better pay close attention and not just read it “willy-nilly” as any other books...

And that's why it is important -- because the Word of God is a “Living Word” that brings multiple dimension and meaning the more we read it over and over, at various times in our life. It never runs out of depth and profoundness ...

Now let's read verses 2 to 7 still in chapter 17:

v.2_”If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the Lord thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the Lord thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

3_”And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

4_”And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

5_”Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Wow that's pretty heavy... however that's how critical wickedness was before the Lord – and still is...

6_”At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

7_”The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

So that's pretty straight forward... Those who were guilty of transgressing were to be brought to the city gates where judgment was made by a council of elders. There had to be two or more witnesses and then the guilty party was to be stoned.

According to the instructions of the Torah, the witnesses were to be the first to stone him or her as proof of their accusing statement.

Now you will remember the story of the woman caught in adultery we read in the book of John, chapter 8. She was brought to Jesus by some scribes and Pharisees who accused her of being caught in adultery. And remember Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground something with his finger. He made as if He didn't hear them.

So they continued to ask Him, and Jesus got up and said to them: “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.. Then He again stooped down and wrote on the ground...

A lot of people have contended to figure out what Jesus wrote. I've always maintained that what Jesus wrote was the reference portion of the Torah that we've just read right here in Deuteronomy on the instruction to the accusers of throwing the first stone. They all knew their Torah.

And the Bible tells us that they were convicted by their own conscience and went out one by one beginning at the eldest right to the last one...

”The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.” (v. 7)

(Music... and this was “Man of Sorrows by Hillsong United from a youtube live from the steps of the Temple Mount....

Wow... that's what God did for us --see below for the link)

He Himself came in the flesh to be all of what we've just been reading,,, the judgments, the expectations to be holy before a holy God... the feasts to remind us, the instructions in every way of life so that “wickedness be taken out of you” the Word of God says...

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

and v. 17 says, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

We read the Old testament so that we would know why God had to come in the flesh to die a horrible death. If we didn't have the Old Testament to read we wouldn't have a clue... no way to understand the gravity of what had to take place because we, God's Creation, could not live up to the righteousness and holiness of God...

but God... yes, but God... loved His Creation so much that He did the ultimate and that is to die in our place in order to atone for our sinful nature..

He made the way for people -- that's you and me -- to be reconciled with God and receive forgiveness and eternal life – in other words eternal life with Him.

In other words, His death is the substitute for the punishment that would otherwise be required of sin. His sacrifice offered the only way to balance the perfect Creator's scales of justice through his ultimate and infinite grace and mercy as both God and man.

v. 18 of John chapter 3, continues... “He that believeth on him is not condemned... and that's great news... that's how we make it into heaven! By believing what He did on the cross... He did it all we don't have to do anything but believe – except receive His gift of mercy and grace.

but it continues, “but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

So here it is if we believe what God did on the cross for us, we are saved and we will be with Him in heaven... but if we don't – and this can only happen by rejection of His Word.... then we send ourselves to the place of judgment – that is forever ...

...in a place called hell – so it's our choice, heaven or hell that's the only 2 options ... but the ticket to get to heaven is free Jesus paid it all... amen ...

do you want to come to the Lord right now.............

just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life.....

Next we will look at how the people were to handle matters too hard to handle in judgment by the people...

Let's go to verse 8 still in chapter 17 of the book of Deuteronomy...

It says, if there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the Lord thy God shall choose;

Now, when they were in Sinai, Moses set up judges that the people could brind cases that were too hard for them to judge. This would be a superior court that would only take cases that the lower court referred to them.

Then in verses 9 to 13,

we read about further systems of judgment for difficult cases that were established beyond that...

So, here we read about further systems of judgment for difficult cases that were established beyond that the superior court...

9_"And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment:

10 And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the Lord shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:

11 According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the Lord thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously...

Then in the next verses, we will read about how the people are to proceed in the choice of a king... and that is very interesting....

... but we are out of time, so we will have to continue from here in the next program...

Music Interlude...

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
