So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of main events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these main events taking place in the gospels.

So as you will recall if you were with us in the last few weeks, there are 9 particular events that we are looking at – if you miss any program at any time, remember, they are replayed on my web site TimingRevelation.com for up to four weeks.

The 9 events we're looking at in this series are:

Narrative 1

So, we pick up from where we left off last week... as you will recall we are reading in the long discourse of Matthew 13, verses 1 to 52 where Jesus spoke to the people in various parables... :

So we pick up today from verses 10 to 17, of Matthew 13 where Jesus began to speak in parables starting with the parable of the sower ...

And right after, the disciples came to ask why Jesus spoke to them in parables...

So here we go, still in Matthew 13, continuing our reading at verses 10 to 17:

verse 10, “And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

(and remember, I'm reading from the King James Bible unless otherwise stated.)

verse 11, "He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them."

Let me read what the Liberty Bible Commentary says of verse 14...
“In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

“The quotation from the prophecy of Isaiah follows the LXX (the Septuagint), emphasizing the obstinate unbelief of the people. As in Isaiah's day, the people (Jewish particularly) had hardened themselves against God's truth and He had further hardened them in their unbelief.”

You see, when we harden ourselves against God or His Word, He (God) leaves us to our own demise and we become more and more hardened – remember Pharaoh, we read that God hardened his heart... well Pharaoh hardened his heart and then God let him have his own way which produce further the hardening of the heart.

Continuing, “Their hearts had waxed gross (fat) and they would not, nor should not be converted, i.e. changed or saved. The faith of the disciples was evidence of their conversion and caused them to see and hear the truth which the prophets (vs.17) had desired to know...” And there's a reference of 1 Pet 1:10-12).”

Narrative # 2

Continuing on, let's now see what that scripture of 1st Peter 1, v. 1 to 12 says for curiosity:

verse 10, "Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: (that should come unto you!)... in other words at the time of the prophets, i.e. The Old Testament... salvation was being prophesied to them... so it should come unto them later on...

11, Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into."

(And now Peter is speaking to the believers – Jews and Christians – in the provinces noted in that scripture of 1 Peter 1)

Then it says “Therefore” -- in other word, therefore because of all this,

verse 13, "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"

(now to gird up meant to bind their long and flowing garments of the time closely around their bodies and fasten them with a leathern girdle when readying themselves for war or other heavy duty work!

And there's so much more in this letter of Peter but we will keep that for when we get there in our gospel reading by event later on...

So let's now move on to the next verse in this Matthew chapter 13, where Jesus begins to explain to them the parable of the sower He just gave them...

So back to Matthew 13 and continuing with
verses 18 to 23:

18, “Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side."

(now “understand” here is speaking of “understand with the heart, with the depth of the spiritual, and not just the physical understanding that does not see the spiritual, but the heart).

verse 20, "But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon (or strait away) with joy receiveth it;"

but, here's the sad side of this verse:

21, “Yet (adversative particle), but, hath he not root in himself, (in other words he has no root in himself) but dureth (or endures) for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended."

So, here he believes and receives but is not strong enough – has no root in his belief, his salvation... (and that goes for he or she )... no root in their knowledge of God...

So how do we get strong and rooted?

By getting into the Word of God... I cannot emphsize this enough how important it is to get into the word... don't wait only to hear the word from the preacher on Sunday ... read the Word on your own, everyday, praying for the Holy Spirit to guide you and explain the meanings of the Word.

Verse 22, “He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful."

So same thing here – not rooted into their knowledge of God and their salvation... so they get deceived by the world around them....

v. 23, "But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it (now understands it from the heart); which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

In other words not only understands it, but also puts it into his/her life, and into action -- in other words sowing the seed also – which results from this understanding, according to the Word of God and which extends from the heart into the kingdom of God.

Narrative #3

And now we continue with Luke's reporting on this same incident when Jesus' mother and brethren requested audience of Jesus...

Luke chapter 8, verses 19 to 21:

here too, Luke picks up from a previous reporting that we already saw before and seems to tag this to it... but it is still within that same preaching tour that we've been going through... it is quite probable that as we have discussed before, often the 4 gospel writers have used one another's reporting when writing their own, some in the 50's, 60's and/or 70's A.D., and even in the 90's as in the case of John who wrote his gospel much later on after his release from Patmos.

So, let's read this part of Luke's subject matter from an earlier report,

verse 19, “Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.

20, And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.

21, And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."

And that's all that Luke wrote about this. So we see that all three writers tell the same story taking place, with Matthew and Mark giving a few more details about it.

And now, we find ourselves going back to the famous parables told by Jesus about the Sower, the Seed, the Tares, Mustard seed, Leaven, Treasure, Pearl, net, Householder...

which are reported by Matthew, Mark and Luke...

Let's start with the first one that comes up here, with Matthew and which seems to be the longest passage on this subject reported... and see how far we can get on this program:

Matthew chapter 13 and verses 1 to 52...

and I'll break that down into lesser verse segments...

So, let's begin with verses 1 to 9:

1_"The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side."

(and the same day refers to the day when Jesus spoke about who his mother and brothers and sisters are in the spiritual Kingdom of God...)

So, “The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

2_And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3_And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

4_And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

5_Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

6_And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

7_And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

8_But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

9_Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."

Narrative #4

So let's pick up our next verses, still in

Matthew chapter 13, verses 24 to 30...

and I will read this portion from the Complete Jewish Study Bible because it is a very  clearly written translation:

verse 24, “Yeshua put before them another parable. “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;

25, but while people were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, then went away.

26, When the wheat sprouted and formed heads of grain, the weeds also appeared.

27, The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’

28, He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants asked him, ‘Then do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29, But he said, ‘No, because if you pull up the weeds, you might uproot some of the wheat at the same time.

30, Let them both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest-time I will tell the reapers to collect the weeds first and tie them in bundles to be burned, but to gather the wheat into my barn.’”

So here we see that among the people out there there will be some false professors among the true believers and the lost right up until the final harvest time or/and judgment..

Continuing on in Matthew chapter 13, we now go into the next two parables which descriptions are really short compared to the others... however we will read about these again later on in the books of Mark and Luke...

Matthew 13, verses 31 to 33:

(reading back to KJV)

v. 31, “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

32, Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

v. 33 “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Next we again read about some explanations of the use of the parables:

verses 34 to 43:

34 “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, (Psalm 78:2) saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Then we have the explanation of the wheat and tares:

36 “Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares (the weeds) of the field.

This is very interesting that they got back to that parable and asked the Lord to explain its meaning:

37 “He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Yes indeed, who has ears let him hear because everything is told in the Word of God, what is going to happen, why we must be saved, who will be saved and who will not, what's going to happen, what's going to happen, everything...

And as for that last verse there, v. 43, in my King James Bible, there are many verses given these for references. However there is no time here to get into them, but I would strongly suggest that you look them up in your Bible and make it a very interesting study of it.

So in the next verses, we read about the the parables of the hidden treasure, the pearl of great price and the net.

So Matthew 13, verses 44 to 50:

44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. (that's the Parable of the Hidden Treasure).

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
(Parable of the Pearl)

And next is the parable of the net:

47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,

50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Wow, again, how much clearer can the Word of God be... but not every one is listening ... but it's all there, so clear... and it's all about the after life... what's going to happen, to come after this life, now while we are living and at the end when it will be over for every one of the world of the time...and according to prophecy, we are the last generation before the very end comes upon us...

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
