And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.
As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...
It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

Narrative 1
Alright, so let's continue today from where we left off last week, on the story of the man with a withered hand whom Jesus healed – and got in a lot of troubled over it from the religious rulers...
We move now to more healing from the Lord – multitudes actually -- as Jesus continues His ministry throughout Galilee...
Let's read these which are reported by Matthew, Mark and Luke...
So, let's continue from,
Matthew, chapter 12, verses 15 to 21:
First, let's read the last verse that we ended with here last week, you will recall, after the man with the withered hand was healed by Jesus:
which we read in verse 14: “Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against Him, how they might destroy him...
so we pick up from here and continue as to what happened next:
verse 15: “But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias (Isaiah 42:1-4) the prophet, saying,
18 “Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive(fight), nor cry(shout); neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench (snuff out a smoldering wick), till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.” (The word 'trust' here is “elpizō “ which actually means “hope”. The Complete Jewish Study Bible translates this verse as “In him the Gentiles will put their hope”.
So some might ask, what does verse mean “ He shall not strive(fight), nor cry(shout); neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets” -- in other words He will not be like John the Baptist “crying out in the wilderness”... but rather He will be ministering to the people with teaching and explaining deep spiritual theology to the teachers of the law, and healing the people in the streets...
The quoting of Isaiah was specific to the Jewish lawyers who knew that Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah to come... This is particular scripture is reported to be the first of several “Suffering Servant” passages in Isaiah 42 to 53 which the Pharisees knew very well.
So Jesus would speak theology to the Jews, and minister healing and grace to the common people on the streets and to the Gentiles who had no knowledge of the Jewish Torah or Old Testament.
Now let's look at how Mark reported this part of Jesus' time in Galilee:
Mark 3, verses 7 to 12:
So again this is right after the healing of the man with the withered hand where the religious rulers were taking council as to how they would destroy Jesus, now from Mark's reporting:
7, “But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.”
So right here we get a whole list of the many places -- close and afar -- from where the people came in great multitudes... whereas Matthew only tells us that 'great multitudes' followed Him.
v.9_“And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
Here again we get further details about the idea of Jesus asking that a boat be provided for Him to speak from because of the great throngs of people all around on the sea shore.
v.10_”For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues(or all those who were sick with diseases).
11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.
Here again we get further details... those with unclean spirits knew that this was indeed the Son of God and even shouted it out... and Jesus would tell them to keep quiet about it – not necessarily the crowd as we saw it reported from Matthew.
And why would He say that to them? Well we saw that in the our previous readings, because He had a timeline to get everything done as planned by the Father, during His three-year ministry. Otherwise we saw what happened....
Now let's read Luke's reporting on this mass assembly by the sea of Galilee...
Luke, chapter 6, verses 17-19:
17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
So here we get a shorter version of what we read from Matthew and Mark... in this case Mark gives us most of the extra details of this very intense public engagement.
And even both Luke and Matthew did not tell us about that incident when Jesus asked to be provided a boat to speak from... so that's very interesting... we can see again because of the chronology of the events, it shows us who said what and when and how, which we would'nt notice normally as we read each gospel individually.

Narrative # 2
Next we are going to read about the ordination of the twelve apostles which will take us back to Matthew 10, Mark 3 and Luke 6, but still within this early part activities of Jesus' ministry throughout Galilee:
Matthew, chapter 10, verses 1 to 4:
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
So if we've been reading the Bible for some time, most of us recognize all these names.
Mark chapter 3, verses 13 to 19:
13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.
14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, (Baa-ner-guess) which is, The sons of thunder: (so both of them, James and John seem to have been quite zealous)
18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,
19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.
Again the list corroborating with Matthew.
And then Luke chapter 6, verses 12 to 16:
12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes (zay-lo-tace),
16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
So here in Luke's reporting, we learn that Jesus spent all night in prayer to God before He went out and chose His apostles. Wow there's something critical to learn right here... to be in diligent prayer before making critical decisions.
And we also learn that Jesus called His apostles out of many of His followers who are called disciples... that's interesting because many people are not too familiar about the difference between disciples and apostles...
disciple = a learner, a pupil (a follower can also be a learner, or a pupil)
mathētēs (Ma-thay-tace)
apostle = a delegate, amessenger, one sent forth with orders
Apostolos (ap-os'-tol-os)

Narrative #3
Next we will read about the healing of the Centurion's servant.
And this takes us back to Matthew 8...
Matthew 8, verses 5 to 13:
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Now, a Centurion is a Roman soldier in command of at least 100 men.
As to verses 11 and 12, Jesus is referring to the gathering in at the time of His second coming. Then He refers to “the children of the kingdom” meaning those of whom the kingdom really belongs as a natural claim to that kingdom, that is: the Jews. However because of their rejection at Jesus' first coming, the Kingdom was extended also to the Gentiles.
Here in this story, even though the Centurion was a Gentile, his servant was healed because of his faith. This incident was a teaching to the Jews of the rejection of Himself by the very first claimants of the Kingdom of God and its King of Kings and Lord of Lords whom they still hadn't embraced even through His miraculous works through the land as He, Jesus, ministered so powerfully.
And now let's read that in;
Luke chapter 7, verses 1 to 10:
Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
Interestingly, here Luke gives us a further big chunk of this whole encounter that we do not get from Matthew's reporting. And that is that, first, the Centurion asked the Jewish elders to go and beseech (or request, entreat, or beg) Jesus to come and heal his servant.
And then Jesus went on His way to the Centurion's house, at which point the Centurion met Him and the conversation that we read in Matthew took place.
This is a clear example of how we wouldn't really see that if we didn't read the scriptures of these events together within the chronology of their taking place. Very interesting.
And it looks like we have come to the end of our time in this program today. So next week we will pick up from here and look at another mighty miracle Jesus did during His ministry throughout Galilee.

Closing Narrative…
Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...
...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...
... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...
...but right now, the question is:
...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...
...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross... I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
