Many Christians scoff at theology and theologians. However, by this they only show their lack of knowledge on the subject. What is theology… is it part and parcel of the Word of God?
What is theology? One Internet dictionary description says it is, “1. the study of the nature of God and religious belief. 2. Religious beliefs and theory when systematically developed: "Christian theology".
From an early edition of the Webster’s dictionary: “… from Greek, theologia: theos, god and logos, discourse. The science that deals with religion; the science which investigates and systematizes knowledge concerning the existence, nature, and phenomena of God and his relations to man and the universe, also the relations of man to the universe and to God; divinity…”
And “logos” means the word, the expressed thought. There are several translated words in the Bible used for human words, etc., but when it refers to God’s Word, the Greek word is “logos” – such as in chapter one of the book of John for example.
My description of it is simply: "the study of God and His Word". What's wrong with that?
